This page will describe how to set up MatLab on a department machine.
MatLab in the department
The department has a MatLab license which covers all machines. There are two ways to access MatLab. First using remote execution on the shared copy of MatLab held in the file system. Note that this is only available from Linux machines and will run slower than normal due since the actual program is running on an external machine.
Running Remote MatLab:
Open a Terminal Window
Run the command "ssh -X trmaster" to open a remote xterm connection to trmaster
Run the command "uname -a" to find out the type of machine you are using
* So for example; if "uname -a" gives "Linux <A Machine Name> <A Date and Time> <A Processor> i386 GNU/Linux" would correspond to "i386-unknown-linux"
The second way to get MatLab is to have it installed on your local machine. To do this you need to get in contact with Duty Support for the department. This can be done via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. You will need to have the name of you local machine, this can be gained from the "uname -a" command or from the name sticker attached to each machine.
