Travelling to Computing Science at Glasgow

Getting to the School of Computing Science is pretty straightforward. If travelling from Queen Street Station or Buchanan Bus Station, perhaps SPT's Hillhead Subway station is your best bet, as it is a five minute walk from the School. If travelling from further afield, you can get a taxi from Glasgow International Airport (approximately £15), or a bus. If travelling by bus, we recommend you get the 747 operated by First in Glasgow. It takes you to Partick. From there, it's a 15 minute walk to the School. If you get the train, we recommend getting to Partick station - there's an interchange with the subway there which will take you to Hillhead on the outer circle. Local trains in and around Glasgow (not the subway) are operated by First ScotRail. You can check the National Rail Enquiries website to work out which train(s) to get on the railway network.

Recommended Hotels

There are several reasonably-prices hotels available around the West End of Glasgow. We recommend that if you are coming to give a seminar, you look at either the Ambassador Hotel, the Kirklee Hotel or the Belhaven Hotel. We'll typically only reimburse you for one night in your hotel, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Local Amenities

The West End of Glasgow contains a large variety of local amenities, with the main thoroughfare being Byres Road, which is right by Computing Science. From Byres Road, there is a very short walking distance to:

If there's anything else you would like to know about the local area, please contact one of the organisers, and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

The Reimbursement Process

If you're travelling from outside Glasgow, we can reimburse your travel and accommodation costs. All we ask is that you keep your expenses reasonable. No five-star hotels, please! The process is simple: you pay for your transport and accommodation in advance. Once you have arrived at the School of Computing Science, we will issue you with a reimbursement form for you to fill out. Please bring receipts of your expenses!

Whereabouts is Computing Science?

The School of Computing Science is located on Lilybank Gardens, part of the main Gilmorehill Campus of the University of Glasgow. Situated in Glasgow's West End, you'll never be bored! We're in the Sir Alwyn Williams Building, one of the newer buildings at the University. Check out the Google Street View image of the building below for your own reference.
